       EXCERPT FROM BOOK TWO.......

Süreyya must have dozed off. When she awoke, she felt happy. She could still feel Emir’s
love enveloping her like a wool blanket.  Then she realized, that was just a dream and
the coldness had returned.
“Süreyya, Süreyya, are you awake?” Ela’s whispers broke through the aftereffect of
Süreyya’s sweet dream. Immediately catapulted back to reality, Süreyya woke with a start.
“Yes, I am awake.” Süreyya rasped as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. Adjusting to t
he brightness of the sun, Süreyya squinted her eyes until she could fully open them.
Once awake, she found herself sitting next to Ela who was leaning her head onto Süreyya’s
shoulder. Ela, aware of Süreyya’s confusion, leaned away, giving her room to ascend from
her laying position on the floor.
The morning sun rays blazed warmth onto Süreyya’s face as she sat upright
leaning her back against the steel bars.
“Ouch” Süreyya muttered as she felt the pangs from her backside. Her spine surely had
bruises along with the wound on the back of her head, she was feeling pains everywhere.
“Are you alright? Does it hurt?” Ela whispered cautiously. Süreyya’s eyebrows squinted in
confusion as she registered Ela’s kindness. She wasn’t used to this behavior from Ela,
it felt unsettling.
“Yes, but I will be fine.” Süreyya surmised as she carefully stretched her arms and legs out as
she reached for her feet. The warmth of the sun felt good. She tilted her head back enabling her
face to receive the full blaze of its glory.
“We are stopping” “Where are we?” “It looks like a tribe” Petrified voices whispered as the outfit
came to a stop just outside the entrance of what looked to be a tribe.
“Stop here!” The leader shouted then he dismounted his horse.
“Take the slaves inside!” He ordered.
Slaves? Süreyya thought to herself. They were not slaves. Who is he referring to?
Süreyya was still lost her thoughts when Ela spoke the words that frightened Süreyya into understanding.
“We will be sold as slaves.” She whispered stoically as her eyes shown wide with fear. Süreyya’s
nostrils began to flare. She looked around at the details of the men. She watched as each of them set
themselves into motion. The seamlessness of their movements led her to believe that they had done
this many times before.
One bandit walked over to the cage with keys in hand. As he passed by Süreyya, he whispered in
a menacing tone, well aware of his power over the women who were held captive inside.
“Well, it’s time ladies.” He dragged the keys along side the steel bars then stopped at the door.
Two other men approached, each carrying a long rope. Süreyya surmised what they were going to
do with them.
“They will tie our hands, we cannot let them do that.” She thought aloud.
The other girls watched in fear as they listened to Süreyya’s narration of what was happening.
“If you get the chance, run, don’t let them tie you up.” Süreyya affirmed with severity. Ela’s look of
confusion mirrored that of most of the other women and young girls in the cage.
“Where will we go?” Ela whispered. Süreyya kept her intensity as she gazed at the men
then she replied.
“Anywhere, you run and never look back.” Süreyya whispered in a grave tone as the other
women began to shiver. Süreyya felt chills trickle down her spine. She looked around to
find any possibility of escape.......
